Our Review

There’s no denying that CCR’s music is some of the best to accompany the silver screen, especially including films about the Vietnam War, many of which have overused the sinister strut of “Run Through the Jungle.” At the Movies kicks off with the band’s harmonious take on “The Midnight Special,” which was used in 1983 for the opening of Stephen Spielberg’s segment in Twilight Zone: The Movie during a scene with Dan Aykroyd. And who can forget the perfect use of “Bad Moon Rising” in John Landis’ 1981 horror/comedy An American Werewolf In London? Anyone who thought Bill Murray portrayed Hunter S. Thompson in 1980’s Where The Buffalo Roam better than Johnny Depp in 1998’s Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas is sure to delight in one of CCR’s most underrated jams, “Keep On Chooglin’,” here in all its seven minute and 41 second glory. Remember in 1998’s The Big Lebowski how CCR was Jeff Lebowski’s favorite band? The Dude abided with “Lookin’ Out My Back Door” and the 11 minute version of “I Heard It Through The Grapevine” (both here).

Biography

Formed: 1967 in El Cerrito, CA
Genre: Rock
Years Active: '60s, '70s

At a time when rock was evolving further and further away from the forces that had made the music possible in the first place, Creedence Clearwater Revival brought things back to their roots with their concise synthesis of rockabilly, swamp pop, R&B, and country. Though CCR was very much a group in their tight, punchy arrangements, their vision was very much singer, songwriter, guitarist, and leader John Fogerty's. Fogerty's classic compositions for Creedence both evoked enduring images of Americana…
