Our Review

“Nas is one of the most important and influential MCs in all of hip-hop. His debut album Illmatic remains a big boom moment, and mandatory listening to anyone seriously interested in rap music. In the years that have passed, his career has seen many ups and downs, incorporating misguided jigginess and Mafioso-inspired concept albums, as well as inspirational hit singles and the mogul-crushing battle raps. This collection includes his best-known singles through 2004, plus a pair of new tracks. Three tunes from Illmatic appear, as does his crossover mega-smash “”If I Ruled The World (Imagine That)”” with Lauryn Hill. Like his career as a whole, the vibe here varies dramatically from track to track. We get hardcore Nas with “”Made You Look,”” flashy Nas on the melodramatic Puff Daddy collabo “”Hate Me Now,”” and risk-taking, genre-mixing Nas on the blues stomp “”Bridging the Gap,”” which also features his father Olu Dara. You could argue all day about other tracks that should have made the cut, but bottom line, this is a solid introduction for beginners, a “”Nas 101″” showcasing various angles of his discography.”

Nice (5 stars)

Nice list of songs by Nas. Columbia did their homework on his hits, but I would have hoped for a double disc greatest hits. I love that song Surviving the Times. It's the only song I bought off this album, since I bought all of Nas' albums straight from the store. Although these are some songs I would have liked to see on the album that didn't make the cut…

It's about time… Oh yeah, 1st review! (5 stars)

Nas deserves to have a double disc greatest hits album. It's just not simple enough to narrow it down into one. (Ok, maybe it is because Columbia did it.) Anyway, this is the album that completes his contract with Columbia, which maybe is why Hip Hop Is Dead isn't on here? Quite possible. Anyway, this is near perfect, and by near I mean it could do without Less Than An Hour. But they made up for it by putting the Street Dreams Remix (which i

Damn 14 tracks does this man no justice… (5 stars)

No hate but Nas >>> Jay-Z anyday. And 14 tracks does Nas no justice. Pick any track on here and I guarantee:

Biography

Genre: Hip Hop/Rap
Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Beginning with his classic debut, Illmatic (1994), Nas stood tall for years as one of New York City's leading rap voices, outspokenly expressing a righteous, self-empowered swagger that endeared him to critics and hip-hop purists. Whether proclaiming himself “Nasty Nas” or “Nas Escobar” or “Nastradamus” or “God's Son,” the self-appointed King of New York battled numerous adversaries for his position atop the epicenter of East Coast rap, none more challenging than Jay-Z, who vied with Nas for the…
